Optimization procedures

The goal of mathematical optimization is to find solutions for a given problem that achieve as good of a value as possible, in a reasonable amount of time while also fulfilling any and all constraints. It distinguishes between exact and heuristic methods for optimization. Exact methods can find optimal solutions, but they are not often applicable to problems arising in practice due to very long solution times. Heuristics, on the other hand, are able to calculate very large and complex models in a short time resulting in very good solutions that often only deviate a few percent from the theoretical optimum. The objectives and restrictions in production and logistics are characterised by a high degree of nonlinearity and complexity. They require the use of modern multi criteria algorithms such as ISSOP to fulfill as best as possible contradictory goal criteria by using different optimization strategies.
